New Zealand, the beautiful country on the base of the globe has been on the itinerary of many hikers and adventurers since childhood. There is that feeling of tranquility and transcendence about losing yourself into a place which looks like a small sized pea on the world map. But step into the country and it will sweep you off your feet with its beautiful landscapes, museums, and universities.
I being an avid cricket fan always looked out for days when my country would be playing against the Kiwis (The nickname of New Zealand cricket team). The clean and green Auckland cricket stadiums with the most relaxed and chilled out crowd always kind of pulled me towards them. Here I was, ready to explore the dream destination of my inner child.
Wandering in the most fun-loving city, Auckland
- Auckland War Memorial: The first stop on my travel list was this grand museum situated on a memorial. This breathtaking museum in downtown Auckland can be reached via bus or train. Many prefer walking from the CBD. I chose to drive all the up to the museum. The interiors are classical and spell out the history and culture of the Auckland region. The history of the place, people and military are what turns out to be the most vital feature of the museum. You can’t resist and click photographs that would look stunning in your home. The Maori people (the people of the Pacific Island Community) did a cultural performance which just blew my mind. Truly the museum enriched my knowledge about Auckland.
- Auckland Zoo: Wanna bask in the company of animals? Visit the huge Auckland Zoo to meet the fur seals, hippos, and royal lions. I was so amused looking at the lions roaming freely uninhabited like he still rules that sanctuary. I felt so satisfied looking at the way the staffs had maintained the zoo. It was like tasting true humanitarianism when I saw them taking utmost care of the animals. Not only that, the eateries there serves absolutely lip-smacking food. I had a great time marveling at the glory of the royal lion and satisfying my taste buds with the delicious food. Apart from that, there are gift shops and picnic area where you can buy gifts and chill out without a shadow of guilt or worry. I felt people of Auckland just love this zoo, and why not! I had the most relaxing day of my life in this very spot. Every penny I spent was absolutely worth the satisfaction and inexplicable bliss I got from this place.
- Waiheke Island: After a lot of recommendation from my fellow travel mates I headed towards this magical Island on a ferry. That’s the only way to reach Waiheke. The moment I stepped into this heavenly destination I was lost for a moment marveling at the beauty of it. The vineyards and olive groves were looking astounding. Looking at the garland of eateries all around the place my face pervaded a satiating smile. The yummy food coupled with beautiful surroundings was something which I only daydreamed until that day. I was itching myself to taste the wine which the travelers say is the thing that stands out. One sip of the wine and I was humming the tune of glory for this wine. I sat in one of the three white sand beaches and let myself loosen up in the company of sea waves and the breathtaking vista all around me. For an hour, I had literally forgotten the world and its worldliness. I finally agreed with my travel mates for recommending me this island. I honestly felt blessed to be alive while I was just chilling out on the beach sipping the most exquisite and undeniably the best wine in the world.
- Mount Eden: Unquestionably my favorite destination was Mount Eden. I woke up before the sunset to catch the spell bounding vistas during Sunrise and climbed uphill to reach the Summit. The highest point of Auckland during sunrise looked absolutely amazing. With the first rays of the sun tearing down the darkness, I could see the entire city in the golden hue with absolute clarity. This dormant volcano wrapped in soft green grasses gives a soothing ambiance for you. Apart from that the gardens, café’s and restrooms add to the charm of this magnificent spot in Auckland.
Auckland trip is something very close to my heart and I shall never forget it. The place, the arresting landscapes and the super friendly people were the highlights of my tip. This is the must visit destination for you if you love hiking and adventure.
