Plants are our best companions on earth. They help us breathe pure air by taking in our wastes, they give us food, they give us air, and they give us life. Life on earth is actually incomplete without plants. For the love of plants today we even keep indoor plants.
Indoor plants are a famed attraction today in every well designed home. Different people have different ways of appreciating its beauty. To some it’s the green color that speaks of life and helps to have a sense of hope and optimism always. Whereas for some, it’s the source of pure air in our rooms. It is not essential to have a garden or balcony for indoor plants. These gorgeous plants need very little sunlight but helps us an extra mile into keeping our rooms fresh and beautiful, just like a true friend would do.
So to keep the appreciation of plants alive let me share with you some unique plants you can keep indoors.
- Money Plant: Epipremnum aureum is known by a variety of names like golden Pothos, devils ivy or money plant. This plant grows extensively in India and neighboring countries and is called devils ivy or devil’s vines because it is almost impossible to kill it and grows easily with little care and support. This plants when grows to its full bloom looks scintillating. It looks great in living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms or studies. This wonderful plant has unique air purifying quality to it and absorbs formaldehyde in the air. This plant has creeper stems to them and grows well when you attach a support to it. They grow well with adequate sunlight although less of sunlight hampers its growth. These are one of the most common evergreen house plants. Although you shouldn’t keep them if you pet cats and dogs as raphides present in these plants is proved to be toxic for them.
- English Ivy: Hedera Helix is a common plant in Europe. It grows easily with less amount of sunlight. Its flowering season in from summers to mid autumns. They are climbers and can be used as hanging plants or railing planters for side racks or natural themed mantle tops. They create a mesmerizing ambience inside homes. NASA has said that English Ivy is number one plant amidst air purifying plants as it absorbs formaldehyde from the air and makes it fresh to breathe.
- Aloe: Aloe is a genus and has over 500 species of succulent plants in it. Aloe Vera is the most commonly used of all the varieties. It is a succulent plant and has lots of medicinal uses. Hence this is a preferred plant to keep in homes. Yellow aloin from wounded plants is used for any kinds of skin discomforts and aloe Vera juice is used for any digestive troubles. These have been used since early ages as medicinal plants and are commonly used in modern ayurvedic and naturalopathic medicines.
- Sweetheart plant: hoya kerrii also called as sweetheart plant or sweetheart hoya is a popular plant of South East Asia. It was sold in Europe on Valentine’s Day. These beautiful plants have heart shaped leaves and are perfect for a showstopper in your rooms. They have succulent leaves and are very enduring. They are so strong that you can actually go away with just watering it for once a month. However if you take good care of it to grow and thrive well, it gifts you with an entire foliage in heart shaped. Isn’t it miraculous?
- Snake Plants: Snake plants are scientifically known as Sansevieria zeylanica. It is an evergreen perennial plant which grows with underground or above the ground rhizomes. They have long leaves which grow in bunch have a characteristic dark green color with grey and green criss- cross over it. These potted plants look excellent indoors and go perfect for corners or side table’s décor.
- Living stones: lithops are called living stones as they disguise into stones on barren lands of South Africa. They are succulents. They can make up for good centerpieces and centre table décor. They look amazing. The best part after it that they do not need watering and overwatering actually kills it. You can place them in glass bowls with other plants and leaves to make it look dynamic altogether.
