We all want a perfect room for our kids. They are our life and when we think on how to design their rooms to organize the clutter and turn it into a perfect charming little nest which is comfortable, stylish and safe enough forthem our options are actually quite limited. Designing room for new born is even more difficult as most of the times we are unaware of the gender of the baby but still we want to be all prepared for the big day when the baby steps into his/her home.
Hence going for non-gender based rooms is a solution here. We can make rooms which is suitable for both, a baby boy and a baby girl. But still after some time if you want your tiny tot’s room to actually reflect your child, then gift him something to get inspired and feelnurtured from, gift him his very own den, filled with love, laughter and happiness to make his childhood just perfect. Here are some ideas to turn it into the perfect den for your baby boy. Also check out my next blog on turning a room into the fairy tales wonderland for your baby girl.
Ideas on Making the Perfect Den for Your Baby Boy
- Choosing the furniture: This should be your first priority as once you have your furniture, you can design the room around it. Plus we want the furniture to be as safe as possible. But it’s a tricky job here. To choose the proper furnitu reuses the safest kind of cribs. Do not use anything with sharp edges or which is too high or too low. Also avoid cribs with lot of ornamentations and designs. It should be something simple. And do not go for too deep crib so that he should have a view of his room if he is sitting up. Make sure that the crib is not placed near the window as it has the risk of the baby climbing out of it and hurting himself. You may also choose mini cribs for your new born baby boy. These cute lil mini cribs can be folded and placed in your bedroom when baby is young. For the mattress and the pillow in the crib, make sure that it is not too soft as it can asphyxiate your baby because it is not possible for him to raise his head up when it slides down into a soft pillow. Make sure it’s not too hard as well and is just the perfect combination of both which is just enough. Place side pillows for the baby to hold on to it and not roll over.
- Toys by the crib: You may choose to keep soft toys in the crib as they do look super cute, but remove them when you are not around. As the baby may start chewing on it or if it is his favourite toy, and it falls down, he may be tempted to go down and fetch it. So it’s well advisable to keep them out of toys when they are asleep even if it’s his favourite one. Hanging toys and bells over the crib is also tempting but make sure it’s at a height which is impossible for the baby to reach, for his safety purposes, use secured clamps and put double knots to hang toys. I think it would be best to not hang up something with bells or any chimes on it as it might disturb nap time during day or night and get him up from his sleep.
- 0-3 months old: At this age, since the baby spends most of his time in the crib, so you may use bold wallpaper or playful design wallpapers for the ceilings which are of bright colours for the entertainment of the baby. You may choose to go with a theme for the wallpapers. There are myriad themes today. Suppose if you choose a World Map theme, you may choose colourful world maps and beautiful travel photos for the baby to enjoy and instil a traveller’s passion in his life. You can also go with the Astro theme and put up stars, moons and planets. Or you may choose a sports or a Cartoon theme to go with. It is completely up to you here. Keep changing the photographs on the walls so that your baby can do some healthy eyes and neck exercises.
- 4-6 months: Since now the baby has learned to grasp his toys you may use squeezable toys, or the musical ones for his entertainment. Do not give him any toys which have sharp edges. Check them regularly for any developed edges.
- 7-12 months: And now that he has learned to get a grip on his toys you may choose toys with buttons or blocks. Buttoned toys with music and lights are great. But prefer not to introduce him to toys with light as he may want to play with them at night and that will surely knock off his nap time and he’ll get super cranky later on.
- Curtains: Mostly people use blinders for nurseries. It is because of the simple reason that it can give the baby the idea that its nap time and he has his peaceful naps unperturbed. You may also choose digitally printed back out curtains which ae really colourful and will go fantastically with your baby boy’s room décor. Generally kids wake up or get cranky and struggle to keep awake till the time lights are on or they can see sunlight peeping into the room. Hence you may choose your choice of colourful blinders or dark coloured drapes or colourful blackout curtains.Dark rooms shall help him fall asleep quickly and have an undisturbed nap time.
- The changing table: The most important piece of furniture in your nursery.Keep it at a near distance from the crib and also prefer keeping as many small sized cupboards as you can. Space shouldn’t be an issue in a nursery. Keep all your required things nearby for easy access. And also keep the space between the tables to the crib clutter free to avoid the risk of tripping over with the baby by hitting onto something.
- Wallpapers: You may choose wallpapers of his favourite cartoon characters. For new born baby boys you can choose to have colourful wall décor with big sized alphabets spelling out his name on the wall. Or just random alphabets, numbers, signs and cartooned pen and pencils on the walls. You can also put up photo frames for baby animals, birds, and cartoon characters. Pretty wallpapers for kids’ rooms are also available today like the sports themed ones with balls and bats on green grass, or landscape ones with highlands and Sun or caricatured trees and flowers. These stunning wallpapers will keep the baby entertained and happy always.
- Toys: Toys are the main highlight in a nursery after the crib. You may use big sized stuffed animals like Horses, or Elephants or Giraffes to keep by the crib. You can also keep stuff toys organized on hanging shelves. You may choose any soft toys. Boys’ generally like animals so you might buy Giant pandas or Giraffes or even Star fishes. Arrange his toys like the motorbikes, helicopters, jets, fighter planes, robots and monkeys neatly at a corner of the room or you may choose to keep them in a shelf and hang it up.
At the end, this room is not just any room.it is the most precious thing in our life and decorating it is a joy that everyone should feel atleast once in a lifetime. Decorating a baby’s room is as emotional as much it sounds stressful, which though it actually is but you’ll be grateful at the end of it all. So apart from these ideas use your intrinsic imagination and make a wonderland for your tiny tot.
